AA slams hopeless trainee driving instructors
Driving schools have been accused of taking learners for a ride by secretly using trainee instructors to give lessons.

According to the AA, around 75,000 learner drivers are being unwittingly taught by someone still not fully qualified, resulting in an extra 27,000 failed tests. That costs £1.7million in further tuition fees.

The AA is furious that the number of trainee instructors has soared in recent years, despite a government survey ten years ago showing that learners taught by trainees were 25% more likely to fail their test.

There are around 7,600 trainee instructors, about one in seven of the total, double the number last year.

"It is a decade since officials found that thousands of learners were failing needlessly at the hands of instructors they didn't even know were trainees," said AA president Edmund King.

So, you want to learn to drive? Great.That feeling of independence, freedom to go where you want when you want can be life changing. Do, however, be careful when choosing your instructor! Trainee instructors (PDI's) must display a pink licence. Fully qualified instructors (ADI's) must display a green licence. Ask also what their pass rate is and their grading. Instructors are regularly check tested and graded 1 - 6 by the Driving Standards Agency;

   A traffic cop flagged down a motorist and said, 'I'm arresting you for going through three red lights.'
'Yeah, well, I'm colour blind,' said the motorist.
'In addition to that, you were exceeding the speed limit,' said the policeman. 'So what?' said the motorist. 'And on top of all that you were going the wrong way down a one-way street,' added the officer. 'I always did have a lousy sense of direction,' said the motorist with a smile.
At that point, his wife leaned forward from the ,back seat and said, 'Don't pay any attention to him, officer. He always talks like this when he's had a few drinks.'
